67% of American Consumers Use Digital Wallets, but Stablecoin Awareness is Only 16%
67% of American consumers have used digital wallets in the past 90 days, yet awareness of stablecoins is only 16%. According to a survey by S&P Global Market Intelligence, 68% of respondents have never encountered cryptocurrency, and 59% stated that cryptocurrencies have no practical use. The main concerns regarding stablecoins include the risk of fraud at 48%, safety of funds at 46%, and the belief that they are 'not necessary' at 39%. Stablecoins are cryptocurrencies designed to be pegged to the value of specific assets like fiat currencies, mentioned as a payment method that reduces price volatility, but consumers do not fully perceive their necessity and safety. Consumers also show caution regarding AI agent payments, preferring a model where a human gives the final approval rather than complete autonomous payments. This survey result illustrates that becoming accustomed to using digital wallets is separate from trusting new financial instruments.
