Anthropic Signs $35 Billion Cloud Computing Agreement with Support from Nvidia
Anthropic has signed a $35 billion cloud computing agreement with cloud service provider Lambda. The data center is located in Nueces County, Texas, and is being developed by Bitcoin mining company and data center developer Hut 8. Nvidia has entered into an agreement with Hut 8 to secure computing capacity and will directly hold the lease for the data center. Under the terms of the deal, Lambda will install chips purchased from Nvidia in the data center built by Hut 8 and provide cloud computing services to Anthropic. It is currently unclear how much Lambda will pay Nvidia for the use of the data center. This arrangement allows Lambda to secure a large contract with Anthropic without having to procure data center space itself, while also helping Anthropic access Nvidia's computing resources. Earlier this year, Anthropic faced a tight supply of computing power and this month signed a $45 billion agreement with another Nvidia-backed cloud service provider, Nscale, to lease Nvidia's computing power at its data center in West Virginia. Hut 8 previously disclosed that its 700-megawatt facility in Texas has been signed under a 15-year master lease by a high-investment-grade company, with the facility valued at $20 billion, which will be used to deploy Nvidia chips.
