BC Card has completed the verification of dollar-based stablecoin payment technology for foreign tourists. On the 12th, BC Card announced the conclusion of a pilot project conducted in collaboration with Coinbase and WaveBridge. This project simulated a scenario where foreign users make payments at domestic BC QR merchants using the dollar stablecoin USDC stored in Coinbase's blockchain network wallet, 'Base'. The pilot was conducted over approximately three months starting in April, with BC Card responsible for the card payment infrastructure and QR payment module. Coinbase managed the wallets for overseas users, while WaveBridge handled the blockchain infrastructure and fiat currency conversion technology. Post-processing functions such as payment cancellations and refunds were also implemented, confirming the ability to instantly return the USDC used for payments to customer wallets. This is expected to enhance the payment convenience for foreign tourists. Kim Young-woo, CEO of BC Card, evaluated this pilot as a demonstration that the domestic card payment infrastructure can operate reliably in global stablecoin payment services. BC Card plans to prepare for commercialization and develop APIs that connect overseas digital asset wallets with domestic merchant networks.
