Claude Max 20x Vulnerability Triggers Massive Account Bans
Anthropic has begun a large-scale account ban due to a "zero-cost purchase" vulnerability in Claude Max 20x. Users filled in the correct IBAN through the German SEPA debit entry, and the system prematurely opened the Max 20x benefits of $200 per month before confirming the payment had been received. This vulnerability was fixed after several hours, and subscriptions activated through the exploit were revoked, leading to account bans. The bans are not limited to accounts that exploited the vulnerability; many normal users have reported that their accounts were also banned, including long-standing accounts and subscription accounts that they paid for, as well as free accounts that never used the exploit. Some companies reported that multiple employees were banned on the same day, suspecting that shared IPs, devices, or payment environments may have triggered the collateral risk control. As of now, Anthropic has not disclosed the number of banned accounts and has not responded to whether there has been a large-scale misfire.
