Connecticut Governor Calls for Regulation of Calci's Sports Betting
Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont stated that Calci's sports betting operations should be subject to the same regulations as existing sports betting companies. In an interview with CNBC on August 27, Lamont emphasized that Calci must adhere to Connecticut's sports betting rules, which include restrictions on marketing to youth and a ban on betting on sports events involving the University of Connecticut. He stated that Calci should not engage in marketing aimed at young people to protect them. Additionally, he evaluated the state agreement related to Meta as a matter involving attorneys general from both parties, mentioning that there was a perception that Meta had engaged in marketing targeting youth. Regarding the use of settlement funds, the state of Connecticut announced plans to receive approximately $25 million annually to support mental health services in schools. Governor Lamont pointed out that the issue of youth protection is not limited to Meta and that other companies, such as TikTok, should also follow the same rules. He strongly criticized the tariff dispute with Canada, expressing concerns about the impact of tariffs on rising housing costs.
