Crypto Activity in France Reaches $9.4 Billion by 2025
The potentially taxable crypto activity in France reached $9.4 billion in 2025, including $2.5 billion in capital gains, $1.7 billion in income from mining and staking, and $5.2 billion in cryptocurrency payments. In contrast, only 24,000 taxpayers reported €368 million in net capital gains for the year 2025, a negligible figure compared to the actual activity. Non-compliance rates could exceed 90%. Globally, taxable crypto activity amounts to $457 billion, with France ranking 13th. Starting in 2027, the French tax administration will automatically receive transaction data from crypto platforms in the EU, but Chainalysis estimates that only 14% of on-chain crypto activity will be covered. The credibility of the tax administration is undermined by security incidents that exposed the data of 678,000 taxpayers, which could increase reluctance to comply.
