Doubao 2.2 Release Delayed, ByteDance Strengthens Coding Training and Recruitment
ByteDance has postponed the release of Doubao 2.2, originally scheduled for August, to spend more time on training, focusing on Coding, tool invocation, and Agents. One of ByteDance's goals is to elevate Coding to the top tier, with internal hopes of achieving results comparable to GLM-5.2 and Kimi-K3 by the end of the year, gaining recognition from developers. In August, the Seed team underwent significant restructuring, splitting the original teams categorized by text, voice, code, and vision into four departments: Pretrain Data, Horizon RL, Product Posttrain-Work, and Product Posttrain-Chat. Horizon RL is responsible for post-training in Coding, while the Work team focuses on tool invocation, GUI operations, and long task execution. ByteDance has been intensively recruiting relevant talent, with positions open for Code Agents, General Agents, and Reinforcement Learning Algorithm Engineers on their official website. The Multi-Agent Harness position explicitly requires research on Coding Agents like Claude Code and Codex, and the establishment of multi-Agent and reinforcement learning environments. When Seed 2.1 was released in June, it emphasized Coding, but ByteDance believes further enhancement is necessary, and they prefer to delay Doubao 2.2 to improve Coding quality.
