Eclipse Founder Neel Somani Resigns as Executive Chairman, Shifts Focus to Machine Learning Research

BlockBeats News, December 30th, according to The Block, Neel Somani, founder of the Ethereum L2 protocol Eclipse, stepped down as Chairman of the Board in October 2025. Somani stated that this move was to focus full-time on machine learning and other AI research.
Somani founded the company in 2022, raised $15 million in seed funding to build a scaling solution using the Solana Virtual Machine (SVM), then pivoted to building a high-performance Ethereum L2 in 2023. After completing a $50 million Series A funding round in 2024, Somani transitioned from CEO to Chairman of the Board. This transition, led by the founder and planned in advance, did not involve changes to his equity or board powers.
