Ed Yardeni Raises S&P 500 Year-End Target to 8400 Points, Cautious on AI Market
Ed Yardeni, president of Yardeni Research, has raised his year-end target for the S&P 500 three times, increasing it from 7700 to 8400 points. He believes that the current market is driven by "excellent earnings momentum," with upward revisions in earnings expectations leading to a decline in market valuation multiples. The price-to-earnings ratio for the semiconductor sector is about 17 times, while the overall market is around 20 times, both lower than during the 1999 bubble period. Yardeni stated that as long as the U.S. economy does not fall into recession, there is about an 80% chance that the "roaring 2020s" will continue, noting that historically, market pullbacks usually provide opportunities for re-entry. Regarding the AI market, Yardeni maintains a cautious stance, believing there is "AI fatigue" in the market and advising investors not to chase individual AI stocks, but rather to diversify through vehicles like the Nasdaq 100 index fund.
