Starting from July 1, the MiCA regulations will come into full effect, which may force over 10 million crypto users to seek new providers. Dozens of unregistered exchanges are suspending or scaling back services in the EU, affecting more than 10 million clients. Regulators are demanding that operations cease and assist users in transitioning to authorized providers or self-custody wallets. It is expected that up to 80% of the 3,000 European virtual asset service providers may not continue operations after the deadline. The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has warned that crypto asset service providers operating without a MiCA license must cease their activities. The European Banking Authority (EBA) has proposed a penalty framework for stablecoin issuers, with sanctions potentially reaching 12.5% of annual turnover. Alex Fazel from SwissBorg noted that clients of exchanges limiting services will face issues accessing platforms and transferring funds. Some exchanges, such as Binance, have already announced changes to their European products. Coinbase and OKX have offered incentives for deposits and transfers, but Fazel warns that bonuses should not be the main argument. MiCA is changing the competitive landscape in Europe, where licenses and compliance with regulatory requirements are becoming critically important.
