FTX Former Executives' Anthropic Shares Sold, Destination Unknown
Two former executives, Caroline Ellison and Nishad Singh, who pleaded guilty in the FTX fraud case, had their seized shares in Anthropic sold by the U.S. Marshals Service to existing investors, with specific details about the transaction time, buyer, and price undisclosed. The U.S. government completed the transfer of shares in February and April 2025, and as of June this year, the proceeds from the sale have not yet been transferred to the FTX bankruptcy liquidation assets, leaving it unclear whether they can be used to compensate victims. The court has ordered Ellison and Singh to forfeit their shares purchased during Anthropic's Series B funding round in 2022, with Ellison investing $10 million and Singh $40 million. Based on the actual sale date in 2025, these shares are valued between $250 million and $1.1 billion; if calculated based on Anthropic's valuation of $965 billion disclosed in May this year, their current value totals between $2.62 billion and $5.03 billion; if listed at a $2 trillion valuation, the value could reach approximately $5.44 billion. The U.S. Department of Justice stated that the matter is still ongoing, prioritizing the use of forfeited funds for victim compensation, and the government may choose to retain these funds to offset case costs, with final disposition determined by the government.
