Ross Gerber, CEO of Gerber Kawasaki, criticized the practical usability of Bitcoin, asserting that gold remains easier to use. In discussions about the applications of Bitcoin, he stated, "In most places, gold is still easier to use than Bitcoin." Gerber raised questions about what the cryptocurrency industry has created that holds real value. According to River's data, there are 49.6 million adult Bitcoin holders in the U.S., compared to 28.8 million gold holders, indicating that Bitcoin has surpassed gold in the number of holders. However, Gerber questioned whether this increase in holders translates to ease of use. He emphasized that buying or storing Bitcoin in an app is a different issue than paying for goods or transferring to a counterparty. The World Gold Council explained that gold has been used as a medium of exchange for over 2,000 years, noting that while Bitcoin has the advantage of being transferable over digital networks, there are friction points in payment convenience due to transaction fees and price volatility. Gerber's remarks contribute to the discussion about the applications and utility of Bitcoin, highlighting the importance of its practical use in transactions and payments, though they do not signify the end of Bitcoin.
