Naftogaz Faces Increased Burden Ahead of Heating Season After 13 Attacks

The Russian military has attacked facilities of Ukraine's state oil and gas company Naftogaz 13 times in the past week. Some production, storage, and sales facilities have ceased operations due to drone and missile attacks. Naftogaz stated in a press release on the 9th that Russia has conducted large-scale attacks on group assets across Ukraine. On August 7-8, seven Ukrnafta gas stations in the Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Mykolaiv regions were targeted in drone attacks. On the 8th, a production facility in central Ukraine suffered severe damage from a jet-propelled drone attack. On the night of the 9th, one of Ukrnafta's production assets and a drilling facility also faced a large-scale attack. Naftogaz explained that dozens of attack drones were deployed against production infrastructure, rendering some equipment inoperable. Acting CEO Serhiy Fedorenko noted that the intensity of Russian attacks on oil and gas infrastructure has significantly increased recently. These attacks could lead to issues in the energy supply chain during wartime, and if production facilities and drilling equipment stop, it will create burdens on local supply and storage operations. Naftogaz reported on the 7th that Russia had attacked seven Ukrnafta production facilities in eastern Ukraine, causing some production facilities to go offline. Naftogaz also stated that from January to July 2026, 32 Ukrnafta gas stations and five Ukrgasvydobuvannya production facilities were destroyed due to Russian attacks.
