Peter Schiff Reiterates Bitcoin is Not a Physical Asset
Peter Schiff, chief economist at Euro Pacific Capital, has reiterated his claim that Bitcoin (BTC) cannot be considered a physical asset. He argues that the value of BTC is unrelated to gold, stocks, or real estate, and describes BTC as a speculative token, while asserting that gold is an asset with real demand. Schiff mentioned on August 21 that he does not view BTC as a hedge against inflation, and on August 23, he claimed that artificial intelligence (AI) is not favorable towards BTC. His reasoning is that while gold and real estate have physical characteristics and uses, it is difficult to evaluate BTC by the same standards. In contrast, BTC supporters see the limited supply and network effects as the basis for its value. The market moved independently of Schiff's statements, with BTC surpassing $80,000 on August 25, reaching a three-month high. Barron's reported on August 28 that BTC rose to $81,326.81 during trading before retreating to $79,741. Schiff's remarks are summarized not as events explaining the direction of BTC prices, but as statements from a gold bull denying the asset nature of BTC.
