Samsung Electronics' sixth-generation high bandwidth memory, HBM4, has recently achieved a yield close to 80%, stabilizing from less than 60% at the beginning of mass production within six months, reaching the original target about four months ahead of schedule. In the semiconductor industry, a yield of 80% is often referred to as the "golden yield," indicating that companies can reduce defect rates and ensure stable production. Samsung plans to increase HBM4 revenue to more than three times that of the previous quarter in the third quarter and aims to raise HBM4's share of overall HBM revenue in the second half of the year to over 60%. The company has set a goal to boost its HBM market share to approximately 38% by the end of the year. The increase in HBM4 supply will drive the production of NVIDIA's Vera Rubin AI accelerator.
