Starkware Completes Quantum-Resistant Bitcoin Transaction Without Soft Fork

On August 26, blockchain technology company Starkware completed a transaction on the Bitcoin mainnet using a quantum-resistant Bitcoin (QSB) solution, which did not require a soft fork, hard fork, or modification of consensus rules. The transaction consumed 10,000 satoshis and was processed through the MARA Foundation's Slipstream service. Due to its non-standard format, it typically cannot propagate in the Bitcoin public mempool. The testing took several hours of GPU computation, costing approximately $150 to $200. QSB employs hash function-based quantum-resistant spending conditions and reduces the risk of quantum attacks through signature pre-mining, but it still requires users to actively migrate funds and cannot protect assets with exposed public keys. Starkware CEO Eli Ben-Sasson continues to support the introduction of protocol-level solutions through soft forks.
