Tencent's Hyra AI Agent Solves 50-Year-Old Mathematical Problem, Optimal Growth Index Confirmed as 2
Tencent's official X account announced that the AI agent Hyra, in collaboration with the Hy3 model, has proven a problem that has troubled the mathematical community for over 50 years: the optimal growth index of the size of the sum set |A+A| and the size of the difference set |A-A| for a finite integer set A is 2. A theorem from 1969 provided an upper bound of 2, but in the subsequent 50 years, the best constructed index has only slightly exceeded 1.1. This achievement showcases the potential of AI agents in the field of pure mathematical reasoning. Tencent stated that Hyra is an internally developed AI research agent specifically designed to assist in exploring complex mathematical and scientific problems. This conclusion still requires peer review confirmation from the mathematical community.
