The Ukrainian vegetable market is facing a risk of overproduction. The areas planted with traditional borscht vegetables have returned to the levels of 2021, while the country's population has decreased. An increase in supply is expected as farmers shift to vegetable cultivation. Prices for some products are already nearly half of what they were last year. Wholesale prices for borscht vegetables are as follows: cabbage - 14-18 UAH/kg, carrots - 18-25 UAH/kg, beets - 6-10 UAH/kg, onions - 13-20 UAH/kg, potatoes - 6-12 UAH/kg. The situation in the tomato market is also complicated: greenhouse tomatoes cost 30-50 UAH/kg, while field tomatoes start from 10 UAH/kg. In the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions, part of the harvest is only suitable for processing, with factories offering around 10 UAH/kg for such products. Quality field tomatoes and products from farmers' greenhouses are sold for 18-22 UAH/kg. Cucumber prices have started to rise: greenhouse cucumbers cost 20-45 UAH/kg, while open-field products range from 18-22 UAH/kg. The situation will depend on the weather: a warm autumn may increase supply, while a cold snap could reduce it. Traditionally, at the end of autumn and winter, Ukraine shifts to importing vegetables, particularly from Turkey. A key issue for farmers is the ability to sell their harvest at a price that covers production and storage costs.
