US Military Strikes Iranian Tankers as Brent Crude Futures Near $100
On September 9, the US military launched a new round of strikes against Iranian tankers in response to recent attacks on US warships by Iran. The US claims to have destroyed five Iranian oil transport vessels. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard reportedly launched two ballistic missile attacks on a US Navy ship in the past two days, which successfully evaded the attacks and continued its patrol without any injuries to US personnel. Iran has stated that it will issue warnings to tankers docked in Kuwait, Bahrain, and at anchor, demanding crew evacuations, and has declared that these vessels will become targets. Subsequently, Iranian missiles targeted US positions within Jordan, with Jordan reporting that Iran fired 20 ballistic missiles. As a result, Brent crude futures rose to their highest level since late July on Tuesday, with a settlement price close to $98 per barrel, briefly approaching $100 during trading, while WTI crude futures closed around $93 per barrel, the highest level since early June.
