US Senate Demands Apple Exclude Chinese Memory Suppliers CXMT and YMTC
U.S. Republican and Democratic senators have demanded that Apple exclude Chinese memory semiconductor companies Changxin Memory Technologies (CXMT) and Yangtze Memory Technologies Co. (YMTC) from its supply chain. The senators sent a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook, requesting a formal commitment not to procure memory semiconductors from these companies by the deadline of the 21st of next month. CXMT and YMTC are included in the latest U.S. Department of Defense's 1260H list, and YMTC is also on the U.S. Department of Commerce's sanctions list. The senators argued that even if Apple uses components from these companies, risks remain, questioning whether intellectual property rights are provided during the component certification process. This pressure comes amid a memory supply shortage due to demand from AI data centers, and Apple has recently raised product prices. On the 30th, Apple's stock price fell by 2.14% to $330.96. There are also forecasts that if Apple cannot utilize Chinese suppliers, Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron could benefit.
