Advantest (TSE: 6857) is the world's largest maker of semiconductor testers, a Nikkei 225 and TOPIX Core30 constituent with a market cap of roughly ¥20.1 trillion (July 2026). Demand to test generative-AI chips — especially high-bandwidth memory (HBM) — has driven record earnings, and the company guides for a third consecutive record year. Even so, the stock fell about 23% in three weeks, from an all-time high of ¥35,940 on June 25, 2026 to ¥27,505 on July 17 (down 7.20% that day), and its Yahoo Finance Japan board is the most bearishly tilted in this cohort. This page summarizes the board talking points as of July 2026, the business and AI-cycle position, and how to read the stock.

    Board and community talking points

Mid-July 2026 brought a global unwind in semiconductor and AI names: an ASML release on July 15 triggered a re-rating, Kioxia (285A) fell more than 16% on July 17, and the Nikkei dropped 1,915 points on July 16 and 2,694 on July 17. Advantest was caught in it. Themes observed on the board:

    • Record guidance versus a bearish board. The most striking feature is the gap itself: with the company guiding a third straight record year, the sentiment widget on July 18–19 read 42.2% "strong sell" against 32.1% "strong buy" (about 46% bearish, 36% bullish) — the inverse of the Tokyo Electron and JX boards. The divergence is worth noting as an observed fact.
    • Rebound bets and algo resentment. Some posters bet on a bounce ("Tuesday's a sure surge"), while others complain that institutional AI-driven algorithms have divorced the price from fundamentals. There are warnings against carrying margin longs over weekend gaps (a preference for cash positions) and veterans citing a seasonal "dip in July, recover September–November" pattern. These are observed views, not our recommendation.

The business and the semiconductor/AI cycle

Founded in 1954 as Takeda Riken Industries and renamed Advantest in 1985, the company is the world's top tester maker (TSE electricals sector, headquartered in Marunouchi, Tokyo). A semiconductor tester is the final quality gate that checks whether a finished chip works to spec, so demand scales with a chip's complexity, not just unit volume. HBM stacking multiplies the number of test steps, so the buildout of generative-AI chips is said to be lifting tester demand. Its HBM-tester share is put at 60–70%, and it is widely said that NVIDIA and AMD AI accelerators are tested on Advantest equipment — but the company has not publicly confirmed those customer claims. It is the world leader in memory testers.

FY3/2026 results (announced April 27, 2026): sales of ¥1,128.6 billion (+44.7%), operating profit of ¥499.1 billion (+118.8%) and net profit of ¥375.4 billion — all records. For FY3/2027 the company guides sales of ¥1.42 trillion (+25.8%), operating profit of ¥627.5 billion (+25.7%) and net profit of ¥465.5 billion (+24.0%), a third consecutive record year premised on sustained AI-chip test demand.

    How to read the stock

The shares ran from a spring-correction low of ¥19,720 on March 31, 2026 to an all-time high of ¥35,940 on June 25, then fell to ¥27,505 by July 17 (with a night PTS quote of ¥28,200) — down 23% from the peak in about three weeks. That leaves a forward P/E near 42.9x, a PBR of 25.1x and a yield around 0.2%, all at the July 17, 2026 price. Note that a 1-to-4 stock split took effect on October 1, 2023, so any earlier price (the 2023 "¥20,000" era, for example) must be divided by four to compare. Bulls argue that AI and HBM test demand is strong enough to underpin a third record year, that the July drop is sector-driven, and that a mid-year upward revision — as happened last year — could turn the bearish board into a spring for a reversal. Bears note the 42x multiple, an extreme correlation with NVDA and US AI names, and that index-driven moves can swing the stock hard without company-specific news. This page sets no price target, and the July 17 price sits just after a sharp semiconductor sell-off.

Trading tokenized US semiconductor stocks on WEEX

The AI and semiconductor cycle that drives Advantest is a global theme, expressed most directly in US chip names such as NVIDIA (NVDA). To own Advantest shares themselves, the standard route is a Japanese brokerage account. On WEEX you can trade NVDA via futures (leverage, long or short) or on the spot market, alongside tokenized US semiconductor products such as AMDON, MUON, ARMON, INTCON and SNDKON. Tokenized stocks are not the underlying shares; they are tracking products that follow the reference stock's price. See the NVIDIA (NVDA) guide and the WEEX market listings. WEEX offers crypto and tokenized US equities — not Advantest or any other Japanese stock, nor any proxy for them.

    FAQ

Where can I see Advantest's message board?

On the Yahoo Finance Japan board (6857), where retail investors discuss the stock and price.

Why is Advantest so talked about?

The company guides a third straight record year, yet the stock is down about 23% from its peak in three weeks and the board's vote has tilted bearish — an unusual gap.

    Is "Adtest" a different company?

No. "Adtest" (アドテスト) is the Nikkei's abbreviation for Advantest (6857) — the same company.

    When are the next earnings?

Q1 results are scheduled for July 29, 2026 — the first print of this cohort's season (company announcement).

    What moves the share price?

AI and HBM test demand, quarterly results and guidance (whether it is revised up), correlation with US semiconductor stocks, and the overall sector mood.
