Agrarians Demand Anti-Crisis Measures Due to Port Blockade
The All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council has appealed to Prime Minister Serhiy Korentsky with a call to introduce anti-crisis measures due to the blockade of seaports. The Council warns of the risk of an excess of more than 27 million tons of agricultural products on the domestic market, a drop in purchase prices below production costs, and potential bankruptcies of agricultural enterprises. Experts predict that in the 2026/2027 marketing year, the production of major grain and oilseed crops will amount to about 81.4 million tons, while approximately 67 million tons will need to be exported to balance the market. If the port blockade continues, export opportunities may shrink to 1.7 million tons per month, leading to a buildup of between 27.4 and 32.4 million tons of surplus products. Purchase prices have already begun to decline, in some cases to 7,000 UAH per ton. The Council urges the government to introduce a support package, including preferential lending and restructuring of agricultural loans. It is also proposed to conduct an audit of the damage to port infrastructure and ensure funding for repairs. Agrarians emphasize that the situation requires solutions at the government level.
