Goodbye to Corner Furniture: The Decorating Trend Transforming Homes in 2026
For years, furniture with straight lines, defined angles, and geometric structures dominated interior decoration. However, in 2026, a new trend began to change the way spaces are designed and organized: the rise of curved furniture and organic shapes. Rounded armchairs, tables with soft edges, and objects with less angular silhouettes are starting to replace the rigid pieces that defined design in recent years.
The change is not just a visual issue. Today's homes seek to create more comfortable, flexible, and relaxed spaces, moving away from environments that convey an overly structured feeling. After a phase dominated by extreme minimalism and rectangular designs, decoration incorporates curves to create a more warm and balanced perception.
Furniture with sharp corners has begun to lose prominence because many people seek their homes to be more comfortable to live in and not just places with overly curated aesthetics. Curved lines create a more fluid circulation within rooms and reduce the feeling of visual rigidity.
One of the main protagonists of this transformation is the curved sofa. Unlike traditional straight or L-shaped models, rounded designs create a more social arrangement, where people face each other or are positioned around a common point.
Circular side tables and rounded backs are also making a strong appearance. In many cases, these pieces serve as central elements in a room because they add personality without the need to include too many decorative objects.
The trend of cornerless furniture does not appear in isolation; it is part of a broader movement within interior decoration. In 2026, natural materials and warm textures accompany this shift towards more organic spaces.
Wood remains one of the most chosen materials, especially in light tones and with finishes that highlight its natural texture. Irregular-edged coffee tables, curved bookshelves, and wooden furniture are some of the pieces gaining presence.
Soft textiles such as linen, cotton, and fabrics with an artisanal appearance are also on the rise. In armchairs and chairs, upholstery aims to convey a sense of comfort through fabrics that are pleasant to the touch and colors inspired by nature, such as beige, olive green, terracotta, and sandy tones.
Color also accompanies the transformation. In contrast to the predominance of whites and grays that characterized many interiors in recent years, designers are incorporating warmer tones. Earthy colors, muted greens, and deep neutral tones allow for the creation of more welcoming environments.
One of the advantages of this trend is that it does not require a complete renovation of the home to achieve a visible change. Unlike other decorating trends that involve modifying floors, walls, or installations, the incorporation of curved furniture can be done progressively through small changes in different environments.
The living room is often the first space where this aesthetic is applied. Replacing a traditional rectangular table with a circular or oval-shaped one can change the perception of the space. It is also possible to add a rounded back auxiliary armchair, an enveloping chair, or cushions with curved shapes to create contrast with existing furniture.
Another alternative is to incorporate decorative elements that follow this line. Circular mirrors and rugs allow for adapting the trend without significant expenses. The key to applying this trend is to combine it with the elements that already exist in the home. It is not necessary to replace all straight furniture.
