Hyundai Engineering Secures EPC Priority for Up to 8 TerraPower Nuclear Reactors

Hyundai Engineering has secured priority for the design, procurement, and construction (EPC) of up to eight next-generation nuclear reactors from the American company TerraPower. On the 18th, Hyundai Engineering CEO Lee Han-woo and TerraPower CEO Chris Levesque attended the signing of a basic agreement to carry out the sodium nuclear power project. With this agreement, Hyundai Engineering gains EPC priority for TerraPower's subsequent nuclear projects, which includes the design of the power plant, procurement of equipment, and construction. TerraPower possesses fourth-generation nuclear technology that uses liquid sodium as a coolant and is currently constructing the 345MW Kemmerer Unit 1 in Wyoming. The sodium nuclear reactor is designed to combine a 345MW sodium-cooled fast reactor with an energy storage system, allowing output to increase to 500MW if necessary. Hyundai Engineering plans to combine TerraPower's nuclear technology with its global EPC capabilities to respond to electricity demand and accelerate the commercialization of next-generation nuclear power. However, this agreement does not immediately signify the conclusion of individual EPC contracts for the reactors.
