Trump Calls Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang to Congratulate on Earnings Report
On August 29, U.S. President Trump unexpectedly called Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang during an all-hands meeting at Nvidia. Huang was hosting the meeting at the company's headquarters in Santa Clara, California, and stepped away from the stage to take the call. Employees present could hear Trump's voice but could not discern the specific content of the conversation. About a minute later, Huang returned to continue the meeting. Later that day, Trump congratulated Nvidia on social media for its latest earnings report, calling its quarterly sales "incredible." Nvidia reported second-quarter revenue of $96 billion, a year-over-year increase of 106%. Notably, at the time of Trump's call, Nvidia was strengthening its policy influence in Washington and announced the establishment of a politically active committee (PAC) funded by employees. Nvidia still has disagreements with the U.S. government regarding advanced chip sales to China and the regulation of open-source AI models. Additionally, reports emerged that Nvidia plans to acquire the open-source AI platform Hugging Face for over $13 billion, a deal that may face scrutiny from U.S. antitrust regulators if it proceeds.
