Ukraine Urges Shipowners to Avoid Russian Ports
Ukraine has urged shipping companies to temporarily suspend voyages to Russian ports in the Black Sea due to the deteriorating security situation and the inability to guarantee the safety of vessels and crews. The Ukrainian side noted Russia's warning about the dangers of navigation in its exclusive economic zone, which may indicate preparations for provocations against ships. Kyiv condemned Russian attacks on civilian cargo vessels and port infrastructure, pointing to risks for international shipping and global food security. Ukraine will continue to ensure shipping to its ports and protect maritime communications in accordance with the right to self-defense as provided by Article 51 of the UN Charter. Ukraine is facing difficulties in exporting grain through the Black Sea due to increased Russian attacks on ports and commercial vessels, leading shipowners to avoid the Odesa area and redirect supplies via the Danube.
