US 2-Year Treasury Yield Hits 4.286%, Highest Since Late July
The yield on the US 2-year Treasury note rose to 4.286% on the 28th, marking the highest level since July 31. Short-term Treasury yields are sensitive to expectations regarding the benchmark interest rate, and the market for risk assets, including Bitcoin (BTC), is closely watching US monetary policy. This increase in yields is interpreted as a sign of a rebound in short-term rates. The market is assessing the volatility of short-term rates, reflecting inflationary pressures and the Federal Reserve's policy rate trajectory. The 2-year yield is closely related to the Fed's policy rate, and if inflationary pressures and the potential for adjustments to the benchmark rate are reflected, it can move more quickly than long-term yields. Rising short-term rates affect the cost of dollar funding and the discount rate for risk assets, linking the trends in US inflation and Treasury yields to liquidity assessments in the crypto market. Additionally, Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh has noted that improvements in inflation trends are not clearly evident. While rising rates do not directly impact cryptocurrency prices, if short-term rates test their peaks again, the market will reassess expectations for US monetary policy, dollar liquidity, and risk asset preferences.
