U.S. manufacturing activity has expanded for seven consecutive months, with the manufacturing index rising to 55.6 in July, the highest level since May 2022, significantly above the neutral level of 50, indicating the strongest growth cycle in over four years for the sector. However, the robust performance in manufacturing, coupled with inflation threats stemming from geopolitical tensions, has led to severe volatility in the U.S. bond market, with long-term U.S. Treasuries facing sell-offs and yields soaring to nearly 20-year highs. Mark Cabana, head of U.S. interest rates strategy at Bank of America, stated that the bond market fluctuations represent a "textbook inflation credibility shock" and pointed out that the core issue behind the market turmoil is the lack of clear communication from the Federal Reserve, particularly noting that Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's performance at the press conference failed to clearly outline the path to achieving the 2% inflation target.
