The weekly technical analysis provided by trader Cara on our in-house platform Steady Lads highlights low volatility in the markets this Monday, August 17. Despite a prolonged waiting period under major resistances, the various indices maintain all of their daily graphical supports. The sellers' resistance is weakening at certain strategic thresholds, thus offering stabilization opportunities. However, the formation of an early rise at the beginning of the week calls for moderation to avoid the usual market traps. Bitcoin, Ethereum, and the altcoins: let's take stock. Key points of this article:
Low volatility characterized the markets despite major resistances, offering stabilization opportunities.
Bitcoin and Ethereum have shown signs of decreased selling pressure, but require confirmations of bullish trends.
The global market capitalization excluding stablecoins index, Total ES, remains confined under a double technical barrier on a weekly time frame. Nevertheless, the structure is gradually forming a flag pattern, indicating a rather constructive underlying dynamic.
In daily data, the key support has withstood recent selling pressures, even aligning a series of three increasingly higher successive lows.
However, the push observed during the morning of this Monday requires confirmation on upcoming closes, as bullish weekly openings sometimes precede rejection wicks. The TOTAL.ES displays a positive structure on a weekly basis -- Source: Steady Lads
Bitcoin shows a nearly identical graphical configuration to that of the total capitalization. The price actively preserves its daily support, allowing ongoing buying positions to be maintained without altering invalidation parameters.
A double bottom pattern is forming in this key area, suggesting a short-term exhaustion of selling pressure.
However, the validation of a sustainable recovery will require a clear break above the upper obliques. Neutrality prevails as long as the asset pivots within its consolidation range. On the Bitcoin side, as long as the support holds, there is no need to panic -- Source: Steady Lads
On the side of the second-largest market capitalization, Ethereum shows encouraging signs of emancipation. On a weekly basis, the price compresses orderly below the $1,950 threshold.
The daily analysis reveals a bullish breakout on the RSI trend line, indicating a gradual return of buying momentum.
Furthermore, the ETH/BTC pair continues its progression within a rising sideways structure, once again testing the resistance zone around 0.03 BTC. 1950 dollars: the main resistance to break on Ethereum (ETH) -- Source: Steady Lads
The rest of the altcoin market presents very heterogeneous configurations depending on the observed projects. The Alts/USD index attempts to break free from a daily bearish trendline, which could clear the way for a short-term rebound.
Among the tracked tokens, Hyperliquid records a notable increase of 6% after the validation of a chart pattern in four hours, while Dogecoin continues its flat accumulation with an ascending RSI.
On the other hand, Aave suffers a bearish break from its consolidation against Bitcoin, and Pepe faces a rejection below its resistance.
The firmness of the graphical supports observed across all major assets allows for a neutral to constructive bias. The emergence of buy signals on momentum indicators even suggests a possible exit from compression. The evolution of daily closes throughout the week will validate the buyers' ability to transform these technical rebounds into lasting impulses.
