Japan's preliminary Services Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for August rose to 52.3, continuing its expansion phase. This figure is 1.1 points higher than the confirmed July figure of 51.2. Standard & Poor's Global (S&P Global) and au Jibun Bank announced on the 21st that this index is above the baseline of 50. The PMI is a metric that quantifies economic sentiment based on surveys of purchasing managers in companies; a value above 50 indicates economic expansion, while a value below 50 indicates contraction. This latest figure is interpreted as a sign that activity in Japan's services sector has improved compared to the previous month. The services sector index serves as a reference for gauging domestic economic trends in Japan, closely linked to domestic demand in areas such as consumption, transportation, finance, business services, and hospitality. If Japan's services sector maintains its expansion phase, it could serve as a reference for the Bank of Japan's assessments of inflation and economic conditions. However, it is difficult to draw definitive conclusions about Japan's economic trajectory based solely on the PMI. In the cryptocurrency market, Japan's indicators may act as auxiliary variables for interpreting the dollar-yen flow. This is because the yen's depreciation and signals from the Bank of Japan regarding interest rates can influence the pricing environment of risk assets. This indicator is interpreted more as a macroeconomic metric to assess domestic demand, the yen, and interest rate expectations rather than directly indicating the direction of cryptocurrency prices.
